Brookside Blast 11/11/22

Hello Brookside! This week marked our 2nd All School Morning Meeting (ASMM) of the year where we celebrated November birthdays, made connections to the whole body listening skills we're learning in Second Step and got a sneak preview of the Lantern Parade! Students reviewed our school codes (be safe, be respectful, be responsible) and were introduced to a new *underwater fishbowl* bulletin board, where classes with add a fish when they've filled their classroom bowl! Students are encouraged to share their ideas for our next all school celebration with their teachers and Ms. Katie Q.

There is NO SCHOOL for students on Friday, 11/11/22. All HUUSD staff will be engaging in inservice at HUHS around Social Emotional Learning and Antibias-Antiracism work.

Next week will be a busy one with conferences and the book fair. Students and teachers are looking forward to sharing goal setting and connecting around progress thus far.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sarah & Chris

Book Fair

Your child was given a flyer this week listing some of the books that will be for sale in the Book Fair. The book fair is now "open" online, linked on the library page here:

The physical Fair will be open Monday-Thursday during conferences next week, 3-6 pm in the Library. Please do not send your child to school with money. The registers are only open 3-6 pm next week.

Thanks in advance for your support!

Health Education: All students K-4 are learning about "germs and the immune system". Spend some dinner time conversations asking what they are learning about. Look for papers coming home. The most common misconception among all grade levels is that families can share drinks, utensils and foods without spreading germs to one another - Yikes!

Music Notes

BPS Chorus

BPS Chorus is back and in full swing! It was wonderful to have such a great turnout for both groups, and students can continue to attend rehearsals without signing up until November 22nd. Chorus is a singing group that rehearses once a week before school for 3rd and 4th grade students. If your child loves music or singing and would like to have more of it in their week, they can come see what it's like. Permission slips will be available at rehearsals and are due by November 22nd. Only students who return permission slips will be able to attend chorus rehearsals after we return from Thanksgiving break.

Chorus Rehearsal Schedule:

3rd Grade - Tuesdays from 7:40-8:10

4th Grade - Thursdays from 7:40-8:10

Feeling Grateful?

Waterbury is a community of amazing folks, and we want to thank those who have gone above and beyond with Waterbury Bucks to use at one of our local businesses! Nominations for Waterbury Acts of Kindness can be someone who provided great service at a business, went above and beyond as a volunteer, did an otherwise thankless task, brightened your day, or did something else to help make our town a better place. Nominees can be anyone who lives, works, or positively impacts the Waterbury community. Anyone of any age is eligible to be recognized and anyone is eligible to nominate someone. Fill out the form (link below) with as much information as possible. Please submit nominations by Sunday, November 20.

Waterbury Acts of Kindness is supported by a generous donation from Ivy Computer. Everyone who is nominated will receive a personal thank you note from Revitalizing Waterbury along with Waterbury Bucks for their Act of Kindness during the week of Thanksgiving.
