Brookside Blast 11/3/23

It sure was a colorful week! The whole BPS community paraded through the village on Friday morning in rainbow order as an earned school-wide celebration.

Speaking of parades, students are starting their lanterns in art classes, in preparation for the River of Light lantern parade on December 2nd. If you are an approved volunteer able to assemble lanterns later this month, please sign up at this google doc. Thanks in advance!

PTO updates

Next Thursday 11/9 at 6:30pm is a Special Meeting in the BPS library, in which we will be appointing people to roles/officer positions and briefly amending the bylaws to allow us to do this properly in the middle of the school year.

Please plan to attend or reach out to Sarah Schoolcraft at sschoolcraft@huusd.org ASAP with any questions.

Earlier this year, we notified you of our status as a Title 1 School. Please see the attached invitation to a meeting on November 13, 2023 from 6pm-7pm in the BPS Library. We hope to see you then!

Music Notes

BPS Chorus Many students have already signed up for Chorus, but there is still time to come try it! Chorus is a singing group that rehearses once a week before school for 3rd and 4th grade students. If your child loves music or singing and would like to have more of it in their week, they should come to rehearsal this week or the week after. Students may come without committing to the group during this trial period. If they decide they want to join chorus for the year, they can get a permission slip at one of the rehearsals and return it by November 17th to officially be on the roster. After 11/17, students can only continue coming to Chorus if they have handed in a permission slip.

Chorus Rehearsal Schedule: 3rd Grade - Tuesdays from 7:40-8:10 starts 10/17 4th Grade - Blue Thursdays/Gold Fridays from 7:40-8:10 starts Friday 10/20 Permission slip: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WEd6xREh-69zohRCjg8i6WOrNj0asigHJC4PtqRFfJc/edit?usp=sharing Please contact epalumbo@huusd.org with any questions or concerns.

Free Lockable Storage Bags to reduce risk of Children Accessing Cannabis Products To help reduce the risk of children accessing cannabis products and other substances, the Department of Health and Cannabis Control Board have launched a pilot project to offer free, lockable storage bags at select cannabis stores in Vermont. The Healthy at Home bags can be used by anyone to store cannabis products safely, but they are especially important for people with young children in the home to prevent them from accidentally eating edibles and other products. A new Health Department report shows a rise in accidental ingestion of substances among children since 2018, based on emergency department data. Cannabis was among the three most common substances involved in unintentional, nonfatal overdoses in 2022 for children under age 9. Other top substances of concern in Vermont’s youngest children include prescription and over-the-counter medicine and stimulants. The free storage bags will be available at Capital Cannabis Company in Berlin and Euphoria Cannabis Products in Burlington.

Enjoy the weekend and thanks for your partnership!

Warmly,

Sarah & Chris
