Brookside Blast 3/18/22
Updated: Mar 27, 2022
Warm temps, a full moon and daylight savings have certainly made for an interesting week! Mr. Neville is surviving his first 'mud season' and the rest of us were surprised to see evidence of a Leprechaun's visit around the building on Thursday morning!
(Speaking of mud season, thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigated communications from First Student regarding transportation changes this week due to road conditions.)
With the shift to optional masking at BPS this week, a focus for all has been compassion and respect. It's OK to wear a mask and it's OK to not wear a mask. Many students (and adults!) are still deciding how they are most comfortable. We continue to support students (and staff!) in taking care of themselves and each other.
Thank you for signing up for spring family conferences. Many families started this week, and the rest will take place next week. This is a great opportunity to reflect on the year thus far, celebrate successes and set short-term goals that will carry us through June. If you were unable to schedule a conference or need to change your appointment, please contact your child's teacher directly.
On Monday, 3/21, the window will open for the CSCI Climate Survey. Read the full introductory letter here. The survey should take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Your feedback is important to helping Brookside understand and improve the specific climate themes in our school. All responses are anonymous. There are no names or other personally identifying information attached to the survey. Furthermore, results will not be disaggregated for sub-groups with ten or fewer constituents in order to protect their confidentiality.
The CSCI will be administered from March 21-April 1. All surveys must be completed no later than April 1.
You can find the survey at the link below. Please contact Sarah Schoolcraft or Chris Neville, Co-Principals, for any questions regarding the CSCI.

SBAC testing will take place on May 3, 4, 5 and May 10, 11, 12 for all students in third and fourth grade. More details will come from classroom teachers as the testing window approaches.
BPS/HUUSD Preschool Registration!
It’s time to register for preschool for the 2022-2023 school year. Your child must be born on or before September 1, 2019. Brookside Primary School has a two day per week program (regular school hours) for preschoolers with bussing provided. The sessions are Monday/Tuesday or Thursday /Friday from 7:50 am-2:25 pm. Please click here to read the full letter.
We continue to be grateful for our strong family and school partnerships. We are so lucky to get to work with your wonderful families each day!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Conscious Circles Parenting group
Hannah's House is sponsoring "Conscious Circles" with Suzy Blais of Green Mountain Conscious Parenting. If you are wanting to feel differently on the inside, speak differently, and act differently with your family this space is for you. Do you wish you could feel calm, comfortable and more connected so you can show up as the parent you daydream of? This is a safe space for those wanting to connect with other parents and learn more about coping with the challenges, parent-guilt, shame and frustration that comes with parenting. If you are wanting to become more clear and connected to your children these circles are for you. Suzy will answer your questions, provide insight on Social Emotional Development, share tools and tips for this journey of parenting. There will be a different topic covered each Wednesday along with time for dialogue and peer support. Pre-registration is required: firstname.lastname@example.org or 802-496-9715. Topics we'll cover:
How to become more mindful, aware and conscious of our inner Social Emotional Climate.
How to create coping strategies that will help us in the moment and also model this for our children.
Are you parenting from old conditioned beliefs and generational patterns? Holding space for our children's emotions is difficult if we don't hold space for our own.
Grow up! Let's reparent ourselves. We can now meet our own needs, think for ourselves, trust our own intuition and judgements rather than let others think and do this for us.
