Brookside Blast 5/26/23

Updated: Jun 8, 2023

Happy Friday, families! We had a really big week with lots of celebrations at Brookside!

The chicks have arrived! Second graders in all 4 classes have patiently awaited hatch day for weeks! They have enjoyed learning about the life cycle of chickens and are enjoying identifying breeds and naming the new additions!

There was also a very exciting entrance today as a result of a highly sought after prize from the BPS/CBMS Calendar Raffle - A Ride to School in a Fire Truck! Annika Hackett was the lucky passenger and her entire class awaited her arrival eagerly this morning!

Students in 3rd grade really enjoyed their science unit about force and motion. Students could only use two pieces of paper to create a bridge. We then tested to see how strong they were. One bridge held close to 300 tiles!

Wrap up for PE this year: We just wrapped up a month-long, striking with an implement unit, which included golf skills, tennis skills and batting skills. The students did an amazing job on their assessments demonstrating their coachability/teachability skills (listening to and incorporating feedback).

Next week, May 30-June 2 will be scootering in PE. Students may bring their own helmets and/or scooters to use during PE. Please leave scooters by the chicken coop in the morning and pick them up after school (putting your child's name on the scooter is very helpful:).

June 5-9 will be biking in PE. Students may bring their own helmets and/or bikes to use during PE. Please leave bikes by the chicken coop in the morning and pick them up after school (putting your child's name on the bike is very helpful:).

Walk and Bike to School: Wednesday, June 7th. Meet at Rusty Parker Park at 7:15am for a light breakfast, then walk or bike/scooter to Brookside Primary School at 7:30am. Families are encouraged to attend and to walk or bike/scooter together. All students biking and scootering must wear a helmet to ride.

Have a fantastic three day weekend - we'll see you all on Tuesday!

In Partnership,

Sarah & Chris

Clyde Whittmore Little League would love to have you join us for a Lake Monsters game on Sunday, May 28 at 5:05PM at Centennial Field in Burlington. All are welcome to join to come see some great baseball action as the Lake Monsters take on the Pittsfield Suns.

Tickets are only $8 (plus a $1.50 service fee) and the best part is that if you purchase through this direct link (https://www.ticketreturn.com/TRMobile/#/tickets/choose-tickets/choose-section?EventID=334057&promocode=WCWLL2023) the Lake Monsters will donate half the ticket sales back to Clyde Whittmore Little League and put us all in the same seating section.

Please share this with any family, friends and neighbors so we can fill the stands with folks from Waterbury and Duxbury (and anywhere else) while also raising money for our little league.
