Brookside Blast 5/5/23

It's MAY! We were thrilled to welcome everyone back from spring break this week - and equally happy to see more buds and green with every passing day! We celebrated our fantastic School Lunch Heroes this week with a well-decorated cafeteria and lots of thanks.

Fourth graders enjoyed exploring cause and effect with these Rube Goldberg projects below:

Third and fourth graders took their first pass at the new state testing this week. Mr. Costello shared a photo of their class resting after working so hard on the tests.

Please mark your calendars for these upcoming Arts events at BPS:

Spring Celebration has been postponed: Thursday June 8th, 1:30pm on the BPS upper playground (songs and dances to celebrate spring and showcase West African dances learned during our Artist in Residency). Friday June 9th rain date.

Arts Nights:

Wednesday May 31st, 5-6pm for Preschool, Kindergarten and Grade 1

Thursday June 1st, 5-6pm for Grades 2, 3 and 4

Arts Night is like an Open House with the Arts teachers. See what your kids have been learning in French and Health. Learn about the School Counseling program. View the Art Show exhibited on the main floor of the school. And spend some time in the gym where students will sing songs learned in music and demonstrate skills/activities learned in PE.

School Counseling Update

All students have an exciting opportunity and will attend a Puppets in Education presentation all about Kindness on Wednesday May 10th. All students will see the show in the gym throughout the day.

Check out the comfortship website for information and resources. Do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Have a great weekend!

Warmly,

Kately

Walk and Bike to School: Wednesday, June 7th. Meet at Rusty Parker Park at 7:15am for a light breakfast, then walk or bike/scooter to Brookside Primary School at 7:30am. Families are encouraged to attend to walk or bike/scooter together. All students biking and scootering must wear a helmet to ride.

Classroom Placement Procedures

The goal of the placement process is to create classes that are heterogeneous and as balanced as possible. We consider each student’s individual needs, input from a child’s current teacher, input from the arts team and input from any other adult that works with a particular child. Final placement decisions are made by the administration.

Because of our looping model, placement is done for students entering Kindergarten, First and Third grade. Students entering Second and Fourth grade will remain with their current teacher and class.

While we cannot honor specific requests for teachers, we value your input as we determine the best class placement for each child. If you’d like to provide input, please complete this form by Friday, May 12, 2023. Placement decisions will be shared on Step Up Day, which is planned for June 2, 2023. Step up day is an opportunity for students to briefly visit with their new classmates and teacher before we break for the summer.

Kindergarten Registration

Do you have a child who turns 5 by September 1st, 2023 and lives in district? Would you like to send them to Brookside Primary School? Please use this link to register:

Teacher Appreciation - From the PTO!

We hope you all had a fun and restful April break. The PTO would like to remind you that Teacher Appreciation week is next week, May 8th-12th. Where would we be without these hard working teachers! Please help us shower them with appreciation and love.

Here are some ideas if you need help.

1. gifts are great!

2. lawn signs or personal notes taped to the entry doors/windows

Thanks! Brookside PTO
