Brookside Blast 8/18/23

There is something about the radio ads for the "Ten Best Days of Summer" at the Champlain Valley Fair that really drives home that the start of school is around the corner (in fact, the first day is Monday, 8/28)!
As a district this year, we will focus on how we gather. Gathering is an essential part of building community, trust, and working toward a shared vision. We look forward to offering a variety of ways for us to gather in groups small and large. We very much consider ourselves a community school and work hard to strengthen school-family-community partnerships with intention.
We are thrilled to once again offer Back to School conferences for students in Kindergarten through 4th grade on 8/24. Please see details about sign-ups at this link.
Our youngest learners are invited to attend an open house on 8/24:
The Monday/Tuesday Pre-K classes (Scribner and Lovett) will have drop-in Meet and Greet from 10:00am-12:00pm (1st day of school 8/28)
The Thursday/Friday Pre-K classes (Scribner and Lovett) will have a drop-in Meet and Greet from 1:00-3:00pm (1st day of school 8/31)
Timely Tidbits:
Back-to-School bus routes are now posted here. The HUUSD and First Student will collaborate over the next few weeks and post revisions on that page as necessary.
We will continue to offer AM dropoff in both the front loop and the back parking lot. Both are for "drop and go" and we have staff at both entrances to ensure student safety. Please park your car in a space if your child needs additional support exiting.
Save the date for our Fall Open Houses:
Monday 9/18 5:30-6:30 grades PK, K, 1
Tuesday 9/19 5:30-6:30 grades 2, 3, 4

"Fill the Form" to support VT schools

Through Vermont’s universal meals program, public schools offer free breakfast and lunch to all students. Even though meals are now free to all students, our schools still need to gather family income data.
We need your help. Every family needs to Fill out the Form to help create a brighter future for all Vermont students.
You may not have filled the form in the past. But filling the form this year will help us run the Universal Meals program and keep it affordable.
It's about more than meals. By filling out the form you:
Help our school/schools access millions of dollars in federal money for education
Help students in our district and across Vermont access healthy, nutritious food
Keep education taxes from going up in our community.
When your child starts school in the fall, your school will ask you to complete an income form (either a USDA School Meals Application or a Household Income Form). The form should only take a few minutes to fill out. Privacy of the income information you provide is protected by law. Please reach out to Sarah or Chris if you have any questions.
We hope you enjoy these final days of summer and, as always, please reach out with any questions or concerns. We welcome your feedback.
In partnership,
Chris & Sarah
